5 Popular Destinations for Vacation
You surely know it if you follow Alepoc For the past few months, we have been offering a wide selection of parts, either refurbished or new from the period, for vintage cars of the brand. Citroën, , Renault, , Simca and Peugeot. Four brands that are mainly known for their popular cars (at least back in the day). And since it's vacation time, we are offering you today 5 popular cars to take the whole family and luggage on a trip. Because traveling in a vintage car is just much more classy, fun... and it's already vacation time !
The criteria !
Obviously, you can go on vacation with any old car as long as you have complete confidence in its reliability! But here, we have been a bit more restrictive.
First, on the criterion of popularity. We immediately exclude cars that are too expensive and will only suggest cars here whose prices do not exceed €10,000. This, incidentally, excludes some popular models from the time, such as the Traction !Next, we will focus on cars whose performance won't turn you into a mobile chicane for other drivers. Especially when you have the whole family and luggage on board. So, out go the 4CV and 2CV for example.
The 5 popular destinations for vacation
The Renault 16
We start this selection with the large touring car from Renault. A car that was designed for long journeys and was also a unique car in its segment. When it was released in 1965, it was the only car in its segment to have a hatchback. And when you consider the amount of luggage you'll need to get away, that's particularly appreciated !

In terms of performance, you have a car with fairly good suspension thanks to its independent wheels with torsion bars. And then there's the Cléon Alu engine, not to be confused with the more well-known and widespread one. Cléon Fonte, with 1470 cm³ and 55hp on the first versions, continued to evolve until 1980 when production ended. From 1971, all cars had at least 1575 cm³ and produced 67hp, and up to 85hp in the TS and 1647 cm³ and 93hp for the TX !
As for price, you will find R16s starting from €3,000-4,000 and TXs starting from €6,000.
A practical, original, and reliable car. And if you need parts, it's on our online store over here.
The Citroën GS
Even if the high-end models of Citroën The Traction and DS are outside our price criteria; the first car from the brand that truly qualifies as a mid-range vehicle is highly recommended for family use with the whole family on board. And it's the perfect year to talk about it, as the GS is indeed celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2020.
However, attention should be paid to the Citroën The GS is slightly less practical than the R16 since the hatchback will only arrive with the GSA in 1979. In the meantime, the chevroned car does not lack arguments. In terms of comfort, you already have a hydropneumatic suspension, and for traveling 500 km, regardless of road conditions, it will be a real advantage. Look no further, among the brand's classics, it is the most affordable. It should be noted that it has a fairly powerful engine compared to the size of the car but is rather fuel-hungry.
And so to be clear regarding the budget, you will find some Citroën GS starting from €4000 and the highest-end models around €7000-8000. Obviously, we are not discussing the birotor here. If you want to go on vacation, the performance will be there, but your fuel budget might skyrocket !

The Simca 1300 and 1500
For this occasion, we offer you some original cars here. Much less common than the previous two, the Simca 1300 and 1500 are nonetheless popular ones that should be considered.
Certainly, we are dealing with more classic cars here. This is evident from their design, as they are three-box sedans. However, at least they offer a large, easily accessible trunk. Additionally, unlike the previous models, you can find station wagons.

In terms of comfort, it might be a notch below, and it's important to remember that these are rear-wheel drives. At the same time, you're being offered cars to go to the Camping des Flots Bleus in August and not to Tignes in February.
Introduced in 1963, the 1300 and 1500 are primarily distinguished by their equipment, which is more extensive on the 1500, and by their engines. The former is equipped with a Rush-derived engine, 1290 cm³ and 54hp, while the latter features an all-new 1475 cm³ engine with 69hp.
With these cars, you will play the originality card because, once again, they are rare and not in high demand. This is reflected in the price. A 1300 will sell for between €3,000 and €5,000, a 1500 between €5,000 and €7,000. And of course, you are offered parts to restore these cars on the online store Alepoc.

The Peugeot 404 and 504
Reliable, large enough to accommodate the family and their luggage, and sufficiently powerful. Here are two cars that should not leave you indifferent when choosing a car for your vacation.
The first, the Peugeot 404 appears in 1960. His more detailed story can be read here., but we'll keep it short for you. It follows the principles of its predecessors: an upper-mid-range model, with a front inline 4-cylinder engine and rear-wheel drive. The three-box design is by Pininfarina, and the new 1618 cm³ engine produces 72 hp. It will evolve with minor updates, and the Injection system that appears on the Cabriolet in 1962 becomes available for the Super Luxe sedans the following year. In 1964, a new engine with 5 bearings will enhance performance and reliability. Let's also note that the Peugeot 404 were available in diesel version and there too you will find them in station wagon.

On the price side, you can find beautiful models starting from €5,000, and the most expensive sedans can be found for under €10,000. And for the parts, this is where it happens.
But if the Peugeot 404 is too old for you, you still have the option to choose its replacement (with which it coexisted from 1969 to 1979 in France), the Peugeot 504. It is the culmination of the lineage of these Peugeot "classics." The architecture is the same, but the engines are more powerful and larger, starting with a 1796 cm³ delivering 73 hp with carburetors and 97 hp with injection! Designed by Pininfarina (for the rear) and the design office of Peugeot (For the front, therefore) its classic line is very recognizable as the car has been produced in large numbers.

Also available as a station wagon and in a diesel version, you can take the whole family on vacation with the Peugeot 504 and even invite you onto the highway if the national road becomes too lengthy !
Price-wise, you will start around €4,000-5,000 for the entry-level models and can even find the powerful Ti models below €10,000. Perfectly popular, in short! And when it comes to parts, once again Alepoc do not forget you, you will find them here.
