Parts for Renault R4 by Alépoc

While it is known as the Renault 4L, its real name remains the Renault 4. This number comes from the number of fiscal horsepower, and the R3 was released at the same time, in the 3 horsepower category. It is indeed a rarity that one does not often encounter.
The Renault 4 replaces the 4CV but innovates. It is the first Renault car to adopt front-wheel drive. Its engine is the 747 cm³. The body is also innovative as the car features a hatchback. Finally, the four wheels are independent, and the interior is spacious. The 4L is a simple, inexpensive car that can have many uses. The range includes the R4 and the Renault R4 Luxe, the “4L”. There is also a van version, the F4.

The Major Evolution of the Renault R4

The Renault 4 will experience significant evolutions, and its range will include remarkable limited editions. Notably, in 1962 and 1963, the Super edition with its two-part trunk, doubled bumpers, and specific equipment. The Parisienne in 1963 was noted for its straw-colored cane design.
In 1968, the Renault 4 replaced its original grille with a wider aluminum one that encompassed the headlights. In 1972, the engine was upgraded to 782 cm³, reaching 30 hp.
In 1976, the Renault 4 was still around, and the export model became the TL with more refined finishes, while the F4 gave way to the F6, which was more square and longer.

The Renault R4 GTL, the Sports Car

In 1978, the Renault 4 GTL was released, abandoning the Billancourt for the Cléon Fonte (link) of 1108 cc, thus increasing power. It received a new black plastic grille, which was generalized to other models in 1983. Five years later, the 845 cm³ became the norm for base 4L models, and in '86 the TL Savane received the 956 cm³ version of the Cléon.

The last Renault 4s rolled off the production lines in 1992. With 8,135,424 cars produced, they remained the most widely distributed French car for a long time.

In the collector's market, the Renault 4 remains a reliable choice. Easy to maintain, you can find models in all conditions, with the oldest ones being particularly sought after. Regardless of its engine type, Alépoc offers you engine parts to help maintain or restore it:
