At the end of the 1950s, the Citroën range consisted of only two models: the Citroën 2CV and the Citroën DS. The Ami had to position itself between the two. The Citroën AMI, the Best-Selling Car in France in the 1960s
The Citroën Ami 6 was offered starting in 1961. While the technical base was close to the Citroën 2CV, the finish (steering wheel, seats) was inspired by the DS. It was comfortable and relatively economical. In 1964, the sedan was joined by a station wagon, whose more classic line made it the best-selling body style! In 1966, the Citroën Ami 6 was even the best-selling car in France.

In 1969, it was replaced by the Citroën Ami 8. The engine evolved, but most notably, the design changed, abandoning the Z line and altering several style elements while maintaining a clear lineage with the 6. It received disc brakes and a well-appointed presentation. However, sales were relatively low. An attempt was made to compensate with the Ami Super in 1973, which resembled an Ami 8 but had the engine of the GS. The latter was removed from the catalog in 1976, while the Ami 8 left the catalog in 1978.
More than 1.8 million cars were produced.
However, the Citroën Ami are rare in the world of collectors. They do not have the same image as the 2CV, but their technical proximity is an advantage that will allow you to easily restore the car and get it back on the road.
