Alépoc, Parts for Vintage Citroën Traction Automobiles
The Citroën Traction is one of the most iconic models in the world of vintage cars. Fifteen years had passed since the launch of the brand with the chevrons when Citroën launched its new car at the Paris Motor Show in 1934.
It caused a sensation because it was decidedly modern and adopted technical choices rarely seen: the floating engine, the monocoque body, and especially the front-wheel drive, something already known but never seen on a car intended for such wide distribution.
The Versions of the Citroën Traction
Two versions were initially available in the catalog. The Citroën 7 and 11hp featured a 4-cylinder engine while the top of the range was planned for the Citroën 22hp with its V8, which would never be marketed. It was replaced in 1938 by the Citroën 15hp with its inline 6-cylinder engine.
The body style choices were also numerous, including lightweight Citroën Traction sedans, "normal" sedans, limousines, family cars, commercial vehicles with tailgate, a coupe (called faux-cabriolet), and thus a convertible... And at that time, the choice of colors was vast.
The Citroën Traction before and after the war
The war halted production, which resumed later by sacrificing the 7cv and initially offering only black cars. The 11 and 15 were improved with small enhancements. Sales began to decline in the early 1950s, with the Peugeot 203 being a formidable competitor.
In 1954, the 15-6 H received a Hydropneumatic suspension that foreshadowed that of the Citroën DS which would be presented the following year. The 11 took advantage of this to benefit from engine improvements since it was very similar to that of the new car. The 15 disappeared from the catalog in 1956 and the 11 in 1957.
A well-lived life for a car that is still very visible. The Citroën Traction is collected in all its versions worldwide. It is a prized piece for all collections and still proves to be very livable, even on long journeys.
